EMS Continues It's Green Tradition
Environmental Manufacturing Solutions, LLC (hereafter referred to as EMS) continues down its path of leaving the smallest carbon footprint in the industry as we seek recognition in the EPA’s Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative (SDSI) as “Champion”, the highest level of recognition offered under the EPA’s SDSI partnership program.
Since the inception of Environmental Manufacturing Solutions, LLC with our very first product ever formulated, and our design thought process was “Born Green” as we promised to promote the safest formulas possible using only 100% biodegradable raw materials and never formulating with NPE Surfactants. So much so, we at EMS believe we started the Green Initiative within our industry.
Cost in the formulation process is always LAST. We first seek out the safest ingredients with regards to biodegradation, toxicity, dermal irritation and voc's and then begin our formulation process. Once the initial formulation is complete we perform both bench testing in our lab and field testing, toe to toe with what the industry considers stronger, yet unsafe products. We continue to test and reformulate with our safer chemical choices until we can produce a product that will meet or exceed the abilities of the competing products that contain unsafe ingredients. Once this formulating task is complete, we price the product. If we believe the market can bare the cost, we go to market. If not, the formula is shelved for a later date when the economy may accept the cost. Currently we have hundreds of such shelved formulation just waiting for the tables to turn.
On a regular basis we send our products for TCLP, Toxicity, DOT Corrosion, HACH and/or Invitro testing to assure our calculation are correct in formulating a better, safer to use, more environmentally friendly product. This is just one of the reasons the US Navy and Coast Guard have displaced the majority of their former chemical suppliers with EMS formulations for ship yard and cleaning solutions.
Once EMS was pointed in the direction of Cleangredients, our formulating process became easier, faster, and more cost effective and became more efficient. What made EMS feel good about our formulating process was the fact that all of our current surfactants were already listed on cleangredients as DFE approved for use with the exception of one surfactant, thus no major formulation changes were needed. In fact, the one surfactant that was not listed claims to have formerly been listed and is back again in front of the review process.
EMS simply tested a replacement surfactant that was currently DfE approved for use against the performance of the one in question and was pleasingly surprised to find superior results.
EMS is here to state that any manufacture that claims they cannot make a better safer, more environmentally friendly product are clearly in the wrong business. EMS has been doing so since our first formulation years ago and will continue to do so. In fact EMS works so hard on having a clean and green manufacturing facility that each year the Florida DEP considers our waste generation status as EXEMPT.
